For information about my professional credentials and experience, and about my practice (appointments, fees, and confidentiality), see below.

Credentials & Experience

I am a registered psychologist in Vancouver (#00975) in private practice since 1990. I bring to private practice experience in the fields of Alcohol and Drug counselling, Mental Health, and Employee Assistance. My educational background includes a B.A. (McMaster), M.Div. (Vancouver School of Theology), M.A. and Ed.D. (Counselling Psychology, UBC). Because I believe that it is important for counsellors to do their own personal therapy, I continue to do individual therapy. In addition to training in Person-Centered and Marital/Family Therapy approaches during my Master and Doctoral programs, I completed one year of supervision while working in an Alcohol and Drug Clinic that met the College of Psychologist’s requirements for registration.

Other training experiences include:

  • American Association of Marital and Family Therapy (1000 hours of supervised clinical work with couples and families accredited by AAMFT)
  • Gestalt Experiential Training Institute (three years of training in Gestalt/Experiential theory and techniques)
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) (completed an outcome study of EFT for my doctoral dissertation, with two published articles about EFT) • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Level 1 and 2
  • Voice Therapy (VT), Level 1 and 2

Sex Therapy Vancouver Appointments
I am usually able to arrange initial appointments within one week. I offer appointments Wednesday through Saturday at my King Edward/Oak St. Office. My last appointment on weekdays starts at 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. When people telephone to enquire about an appointment, I like to have a brief discussion in which I answer their questions and decide if I have the expertise to assist them. If I don't think I'm able to be of help, I try to suggest alternatives. People typically see me once per week in the early stages of counselling, with sessions being staggered further apart as people feel more confident about their progress.

Most engage in brief counselling lasting from four to fourteen sessions. People with more long- standing difficulties or who want to pursue deeper change may require over a year of counselling. Appointments can be made by referral (family physician), or by contacting me directly at (604) 873-0222 and leaving a message if I am unavailable. If people need to cancel appointments, I appreciate being given as much advance notice as possible. I have a 24 hour cancellation policy: with a minimum of 24 hours notice of cancellation, there is no fee; with less than 24 hours notice, half the full fee is charged.

Sex Therapy Vancouver Fees and Payment
My fee for each 60 minute session is $190.00 CAN. Although Psychologists' fees are not covered by the Medical Services Plan (MSP), they are covered to some extent by most extended health plans and are deductible as a medical expense on income taxes. I request payment by cheque or cash at the end of each appointment and provide an official receipt with my registration number. This receipt may be remitted to an insurance company for reimbursement or reported on one's tax return as a medical expense.

Confidentiality
With some exceptions, what people talk about in counselling is strictly confidential.

The exceptions are:

If you ask me to send information to anyone else, I will ask for your signed release to do so. For example, I ask clients who have been referred by their physician for their written permission to send a note to their physician indicating that we are working together. Any information I send is available for clients to see.

  • I am required legally to tell the Ministry of Children and Families if I learn of a child being abused.
  • I am required legally to warn anyone whose life is in danger.
  • I am required legally to warn the authorities if a client has a plan to kill himself and is at serious risk to carry out this plan.
  • I am required legally to comply with a subpoena to appear in court or to provide my notes to a court.
